ACA Age Band Rate Auto Fill

When configuring a medical renewal RFP, MonarkHQ now automatically fills in the ACA age-band rate multipliers for the selected carrier. This eliminates the need to manually look up and enter each per-age-band rate when setting up current rates for a renewal.

What Are ACA Age-Band Rates?

For ACA-compliant fully insured medical plans, carriers apply actuarially standard multipliers to compute rates across age bands — the specific rate for a 35-year-old is a multiple of the rate for a 21-year-old, and these multipliers follow tables established under ACA regulations. However, carriers are permitted to use their own carrier-specific multiplier tables within the regulatory bounds, so the exact multipliers vary by carrier.

When brokers enter current rates on a renewal RFP, the age-rates section requires these per-band values to give carrier representatives an accurate picture of the group's existing cost structure.

How Auto-Fill Works

When you select a carrier in the medical renewal tab, Monark checks whether that carrier's ACA age-band multiplier table is available. If it is, the age-rates section is automatically populated with the carrier's standard multipliers applied to the base rate.

This means:

  • You do not need to manually transcribe each per-age-band rate from a carrier rate sheet
  • The filled-in values reflect the carrier's actual ACA multiplier schedule
  • You can review and override any individual rate before saving

Auto-fill applies when the renewal plan's carrier is selected and the plan uses age-band rating. It does not apply to composite-rated plans.

Reviewing and Editing Auto-Filled Rates

  1. Open the medical renewal configuration for the group
  2. Select the current carrier from the carrier picker
  3. Navigate to the Age Rates section — auto-filled values appear immediately
  4. Review the pre-populated rates against your carrier rate sheet
  5. Edit any rate that differs from your actual current rates
  6. Save the configuration

Always verify auto-filled rates against your carrier documentation. Auto-fill uses carrier-reported multiplier tables and may not reflect mid-year rate adjustments, participation discounts, or negotiated rates that differ from the standard schedule.

When Auto-Fill Is Not Available

Auto-fill requires that Monark has the carrier's ACA multiplier table on file. If auto-fill does not trigger after selecting a carrier, enter the age-band rates manually from your carrier rate sheet. The age-rates section remains fully editable regardless of whether auto-fill is available.
